Center equipment:

  • device for measuring impact strength with Hopkinson measuring rods;
  • installation for measuring the modulus of elasticity and internal friction;
  • ultrasonic and eddy current flaw detectors;
  • sensors and equipment for measuring acoustic emission signals;
  • roughness and waviness measuring devices;
  • automated stand for researching the performance of cutters during precision machining.

Measured characteristics:

  • dynamic strength and crack resistance of ceramics and superhard polycrystals;
  • energy (work) of fracture of impact-resistant ceramics;
  • dynamic modulus of elasticity and logarithmic decrement of oscillations;
  • internal and surface defects of powder metallurgy products;
  • amplitude-frequency characteristics of acoustic emission signals during fracture, wear and machining processes;
  • surface quality indicators during machining;
  • forces, vibrations, acoustic emission and temperature during cutting of difficult-to-machine materials.

Our developments:

The Scientific and Educational Center has developed and uses methods for measuring the modulus of elasticity, the speed of sound, the logarithmic decrement of vibrations of composite materials, as well as the strength under dynamic loading of small-sized samples on a Hopkinson-Kolsky measuring rod installation.

An automated center based on a lathe has been created, which is capable of measuring in real time the temperature in the cutting zone, the components of the cutting force, vibration parameters, acoustic emission signals, as well as the roughness and waviness of the processed surface.

The technology of using diamond tool materials in the processing of copper, aluminum and titanium alloys, drilling carbon plastics and fiberglass with original drills made of diamond-hard alloy plates, and fine turning of non-ferrous alloys with diamond single crystals has been optimized. Studies were carried out on the influence of cutting modes on the performance of cutters made of cubic boron nitride-based composites during finish turning of hardened steels ХВГ and ШХ15.

The physical and mechanical properties of impact-resistant ceramics made of boron carbide were investigated.
