The scientific and theoretical journal “Superhard Materials” was founded in July 1979. The founders are the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the V.M. Bakul Institute of Superhard Materials. Six issues are published per year. Languages: Ukrainian, English.

Publishes theoretical and experimental studies of the structure and properties of single and polycrystals of synthetic diamond and cubic boron nitride, refractory compounds, high-density ceramics and hard alloys, and their application in tool production.

The journal “Superhard Materials” is published in English under the title “Journal of Superhard Materials” by Allerton Press Inc. (Http://www.allertonpress.com/journals/shm.htm) in the USA and is presented in the electronic databases of scientific information of the Springerlink system (http://www.springer.com/chemistry/physical+chemistry/journal/11961).

The journal “Journal of Superhard Materials” is included in the information products of Thomson Reuters – starting from volume 30 (1) 2008, the publication is indexed in the following databases:

The inclusion of the journal “Sverkhtverdye materyal” ( “Journal of Superhard Materials”) in the electronic databases of Thomson Reuters and the scientific information bases Academic OneFile, ChemWeb, Expanded Academic, Google Scholar, INSPEC, OCLC, SCOPUS, Summon by Serial Solutions became a recognition by the world scientific community of its high scientific level, compliance with world publishing standards, terminology and high quality of presentation of the material. This fact confirmed the successful many years of activity of the team of the Institute of Superhard Materials named after V.M. Bakul of the NAS of Ukraine, the director and editor-in-chief academician M.V. Novikov, members of the editorial board, editorial staff and editors-translators.

According to the “Journal Citation Report, Thomson Reuters” (http://www.springer.com/chemistry/physical+chemistry/journal/11961), the journal “Sverkhtverdye materyal” received an impact factor of 0.785 for 2011.
