Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Prof. Anatoly Lvovich Maistrenko is a well-known scientist in Ukraine and abroad in the field of strength of structurally inhomogeneous materials and computer modeling of physical and mechanical properties of superhard composites taking into account their structural state and technological heredity, as well as the development of new technological methods for sintering composite diamond-containing materials (KAM) for rock-breaking tools. As a result of the research carried out by A.L. Maistrenko, a major scientific and technical problem was solved, which is a significant contribution to the development of the theory of strength and brittle fracture of composite materials containing diamonds, increasing their strength and operational properties, and is of important national economic importance. He developed a model of fracture of synthetic diamond grains with inclusions of an alloy-solvent under thermal load. The practical result of these studies was the creation of a technology for intensive electrosintering of composite diamond-containing materials under pressure, which allowed to significantly increase their wear resistance and operational properties. For the development of drilling tools of a new technical level as part of the creative team, A.L. Maystrenko received the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology in 2007 for the work “Creation and implementation of a complex of domestic technologies, technical means, drilling tools and new materials to increase the efficiency of drilling operations aimed at increasing oil and gas production in Ukraine”. Based on computer modeling of the process of dynamic interaction of a steel elastic-plastic rod with a ceramic plate, A.L. Maystrenko established the main mechanisms of converting kinetic energy into plastic deformations of the steel rod and surface energy during fragmentation of the ceramic material of ballistic obstacles. Thanks to this justification, a technology for sintering ceramic plates for ballistic purposes was developed and a model of the process of destruction of armored ceramic obstacles was proposed, on the basis of which effective armor protection of lightly armored vehicles against the effects of large-caliber bullets was created. A numerical model was developed for determining the distribution of austenitic-martensitic phase transformations in the volume of steel products as a result of non-stationary and inhomogeneous heating in an induction field and intensive cooling in air or various liquid media. The results of A.L. Maistrenko’s activities are covered in 295 scientific publications, including 4 monographs, 98 articles and reports, and 31 inventions and patents. 7 candidates of technical sciences were trained under his scientific supervision. Professor A.L. Maistrenko also taught at the National Aviation University. A.L. Maistrenko is a member of the Academic Council of the Institute, was the Scientific Secretary of the Specialized Scientific Council at the V.M. Bakul Institute of Superhard Materials of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the Scientific Secretary of the Expert Council of the Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine for Mechanical Science and General Mechanical Engineering. He is one of the founders of the “Ukrainian Society for the Fracture Mechanics of Materials” and was elected a member of the National Committee of Ukraine for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics. A.L. Maistrenko was awarded the distinction “For Scientific Achievements” (2008) and the Certificate of Honor of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1998).
